Stylish Saturday - Issue 0003
A round up of the week in style and fashion... or what I came across!
Welcome to the third edition of Stylish Saturday - a column of interesting musings or ideas I came across to do with style or fashion.
The week the Christmas lights came on…
On Thursday, I eagerly went to see the Christmas lights switch-on at New Bond Street. I dressed warmly and headed out. I strolled to the Chanel store, passing the Searcy’s pop up and taking some hot mulled wine along the way.
Getting treated to some hot mulled wine as I make my way for the Christmas Lights Switch-On…
After some short yet sweet speeches by Dee Corsi of the West End Company and Thomas du Pre de Saint Maur, head of global creative at Chanel, the actress Lucy Boynton came up to switch on the lights at 5:15pm.
The moment the Christmas lights on New Bond Street in London came on…
I must say, while Chanel’s store front was very chic and parred back with no decorations and its signature Parisian style, Dior’s store next door went all out creating an exquisite display with a story book under-the-sea theme. I found this most amusing as the caption below the next photo explains…
It looked like Dior dressed up to impress Chanel for Christmas! The two persons are long gone and still they manage to have a dialogue between one another!

Bonsoir, Monsieur Crabe! The attention to detail on the display is immaculate.
In contrast, Chanel looked like their Fragrance & Beauty arm already spent so much decorating the entire street that they’ve had nothing left for their own store front! The chic lantern and perfume bottle decorations look very impressive at night time though as the next photo shows…

Other Christmas light switch-on ceremonies included this one with Dame Joan Collins and her husband, just off Bishopsgate, which has the tallest Christmas tree in London:

There was another one on tonight in Chelsea, but since I’ve had to write this up still, I decided not to go:
The week I’ve signed up to Let’s Write! writing community over on Writers Bureau
I have a month’s free trial to test this out before I go for the paid option. It costs £60 for 6 months or £15 per month. We were given a picture prompt showing a door and now have to go away and write a piece of up to 1000 words about what’s behind it. This is due next Saturday before we have a Zoom meeting to discuss our work.
November’s writing prompt… any clue as to what lies behind this door?
Just Received…
This absolutely STUNNING photo of a robin landing on a tree branch by Alessandro Riccarelli… I’m so pleased with it!
Today, I had a package from Amazon… and my photographer friend, Alessandro Riccarelli decided to send me this amazing photo of his, which I totally fell in love with when I saw it! I was half-joking when I said I wanted an A3 print of it… yet, he went the extra mile to have it printed on a special kind of glass and it’s now hanging in my bedroom! Wow! I really wasn’t expecting such a perfect gift so soon! Christmas does come early sometimes…
The week that Christian Dior stressed me out!
I was meant to deliver an article about the life and work of Christian Dior… my research took a curve ball and I was unable to deliver this post on time for my Wondrous Wednesdays section! I realise Substack is not a magazine as such, but it really does feel like a proper publication platform.
I’ve done double the amount of research that I’ve had to do for my posts on Issey Miyake and Yves Saint Laurent. Maybe as he is a master craftsman, I took a lot more time to read up on him properly. Also, it may be because I’ve attended the Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams exhibition in person back in 2019 and have extensive knowledge of the outfits that I’m finding it difficult to write from one angle about this designer as a result! I’m also still in the process of selecting which outfits to show you and having a hard time picking favourites!
O, Cher Monsieur Dior! You really know how to annoy me! Oui, oui!
Hopefully that article will be available to read from tomorrow…
That is all from me for now. Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Yours in Style,
